20-03-2017 Bong & Penang (From History to A Modern City)

One thing that we do every time
when we travel back to Malaysia,
is visiting this UNESCO city~
Just like before,
we took the ferry from Butterworth
to Georgetown.
and from there,
we just walked to all our destinations....
First we walked to the hotel
where we gonna stay for 2 nights...
"East Indies Mansion"
It is recommended by my friend Peter
and he would be staying there at that time too.
So I thought of just booking the same hotel,
since it would be much easier to meet up.
PLUS,
Lars also likes history kind of stuffs....
So, this hotel would be really interesting for him
The hotel itself was originally a house of Koh Lay Huan,
the first Kapitan Cina
(means the leaders of the overseas Chinese community) of Penang.
In 2006, Wilkinsons purchased the house
and the house was then restored to its former glory...
We were lucky to manage to book a room there
since it is always fully booked~
We booked a duplex quadruple room.
1 room on the ground floor,
and another room on the first floor.
The room on 1st. floor also has direct access to this
community room...
We paid about MYR 650 (NOK 1300) for 2 night
and we were very very satisfied with it.
After we dropped our stuffs at the hotel,
we went across the street to this PIT STOP cafe
for our light lunch.
Then we walked to our first sight-seeing
destination...
"Fort Cornwallis"
Unlike some of the fortress in Norway,
it is unfortunately not free to enter...
It was used to be water all around this
star-shaped fortress.
But after that they just covered the whole place up
 due the water causing diseases
such as Aedes...
No doubt those were just for display...
they were not serious archaeological findings!
To be continued...

XOXO
