After spending almost 3 hours
at Suomenlinna,
we had to just say goodbye to this beautiful place....
because with our Helsinki Card,
we still had so much more interesting things
in Helsinki to do!
The weather was so nice,
and that's why it was so many people at
Allas Sea Pool!
We went off from the ferry,
walked pass this nice building,
Uspenski Cathedral...
this love bridge
right beside Ravintola Sipuli...
artistic tunnel
to the University of Helsinki
and finally arrived to our destination!
This shopping center
(kind of thing)
offers you lots of buffet!
They have chinese, japanese,
middle eastern buffet...
You can only choose one type,
and most of them cost around 8 Euro to 10 Euro!
The buffet was great,
and we were of course very satisfied!
Since we had eaten so much,
we just had to walk more!
We went back to the market square again,
but this time for taking
The Beautiful Canal Route!
You can find many operators
for this kind of canoe trip...
With Helsinki Card,
we got a trip with
The Beautiful Canal Route...
The route started with
Suomenlinna Sea Fortress...
Then the Kustaanmiekka strait
and Santahamina Military Base
Then Hevossalmi strait,
Jollas, Degerö, Vartiosaari island
and lots of finish nature
plus island life!
This bridge was just slightly
above our head!
How if the water level was much higher?
From cabin
to outdoor sauna,
the Finnish definitely know how to enjoy life!
Of course,
we had a great time on the boat!
but I must say,
it was a bit too much with
more than 1 hour directly under the strong sun!
Then we came to
Degerö canal...
which was one of the most important
and popular ones!
Continued with Tiilirukki Bay
and some beach life...
Because of the nice weather,
we did manage to see how crowded
the sandy beach was!
Lastly,
we passed by the Maritime Helsinki,
Kulosaari island....
Korkeasaari Zoo
(So many parents bringing their kids there!)
Icebreakers and
Katajanokka...
After the relaxing canal trip,
we headed back to the hotel,
picked up our luggage,
took the local train again,
and went to the airport.
Our flights were early in the morning
the next day...
And that's why I decided
to stay at a hotel nearby the airport.
This Forenom hostel
was quite ok.
Walking distance is about 25 minutes
from the airport...
But the biggest problem is that there is no proper walking pathway
in certain area.
So we had to walk like in the middle of highway
or big road!
And we were a bit unlucky that evening
because some people were a bit too 'excited' watching the world cup
So it was quite noisy!
Otherwise it was quite OK.
We had our rest and the next day
we took the free bus right in front of the hotel to the airport.
Arne flew back to Oslo
while I continued my trip to Austria due to a conference.
That's all about Helsinki!
