Our summer holiday this year started with the exciting
flower selling at North Norway Agricultural Fair.
We drove right after work on Thursday
so that we could reach at Storsteinnes on Friday,
and help Kjell to sell flowers from Saturday to Sunday
in super CRAZY North Norway summer weather.
After the Agricultural Fair,
we were lucky with the weather
and managed to complete all the tasks on our list,
from fishing to visiting friends and family....
We started our driving 'marathon'
back to the south on the Wednesday in the final week,
but before we really started to head south,
we decided to take an extra route to visit Arne's cousin
who is living at Myre, Vesterålen.
This time around,
we had 2 friends following us as well....
So, we decided to take the driving marathon
slightly less stressing.
We stopped at Sami Camp at Heia,
and then Bjerkvik for a lunch break...
Crossed the Tjeldsundbrua (Tjeldsund bridge)
and the weather that day was just
OK...
So, everything at Vesterålen seemed
OK as well....
Not spectacular....
After that,
we started our very first outdoor art at Vesterålen...
Based on the address from the website,
we came to Sigerfjord....
We couldn't find the sculpture
so we had to stop at a cafe there and asked...
the people (all were sitting at the same table)
happened to know this sculpture!
And they were supposed to have a meal with the artist's family...
But there was an issue...
This sculpture is actually owned by the artist
and placed at his private property.
So we had to ask for permission if we wanted to enter the private area
to take picture of this sculpture.
And of course,
we did!
We asked and the lady of the house
just said 'værsågod' (welcome)
The north norwegians are generally super friendly!
After visiting Sigerfjord and the sculpture,
we continued the journey to Myre,
had a very interesting check-in at
Myre Overnatting AS/Myre Accommodation AS....
and then started the walking trip to
Arne's cousin
plus another hunt for outdoor art.
We were supposed to look for a lamp and a transformer
but we failed.
We met a super friendly
local lady who told us
about the exact location of transformer...
(and she was super proud of her stunning garden)
and when we arrived at Arne's cousin,
she informed us that the storm had taken down the lamp last winter!
What a pity story....
We were served very delicious dinner
and cake by the cousin
and time just flew!
We were supposed to leave sorta early the next day
so we had to say goodbye for the visit this time!
The next day morning,
we drove to Nyksund,
another tourist place which is about 10-15 km from Myre...
But before that,
we had to visit
the very last tourist 'attraction' at Myre,
The Portal,
which is a memorial of fishermen who had died in the sea.
The memorial is located
at Myre church....
After that,
we drove to Nyksund...
and the roads there were certainly interesting....
Over the bridge,
there are cafes, restaurants,
accommodations, etc.
And we chose some spots
to stop the car to take some pictures....
The views,
the landscapes are just simply breathtaking
and we were super lucky with the weather!
To be continued....
XOXO
