The next day,
we took metro to the subway station
Helsingin yliopisto
(University of Helsinki).
From there,
we walked to the market square...
and it was a lot to see from our little walking journey,
from beautiful statues
to expensive art.
Our first destination of the day is
Suomenlinna!
And we thought we were early...
but people were already starting to queue up and wait
when we arrived at the terminal.
The ferry came and we went straight to to the top
so that we could see more
while enjoying the sun!
The ferry took about
20 minutes...
and we were lucky with nice weather!
After passing by the cruise boat
and small islands with cabins,
we finally arrived at Suomenlinna!
From the jetty,
we firstly walked to the Suomenlinna Church.
We did not spend so much time
on this church visit....
because this world heritage site
of course has a lot to offer
for nice photos!
Right beside the bridge to Susisaari
is this Suomenlinna Museum.
Since we had Helsinki Card,
so all museum entry on this island was free!
Those were the building parts
and items from the old day Suomenlinna...
After this museum visit,
we crossed the bridge and came to Susisaari.
Based on the map I got about Suomenlinna,
it looks like they have divided Suomenlinna by parts...
It was so nice to stand there
and had a look at fortress on Iso Mustasaari.
and not to forget,
lots of different kind of boats at the quay!
The second museum that we went to
was this Vesikko Submarine!
It was built in the 1930s,
and served in the Second World War.
I seriously couldn't imagine
how people had to live there
at that time...
After that,
we started to feel hungry...
and thank god for my super good planning,
we did bring matpakka (lunch box) with us!!
The lunch was just amazing,
with nice views
and fantastic weather!
After that,
we had to just rush ourselves a bit,
because the area is really big!
We walked pass
the beach area,
picnic shelter...
and came to Kustaanmeikka sand banks
and artillery...
It was quite a long walk,
but it was worth it!
They have also restaurant
and cafe at that area....
See the amount of people at the King's Gate??
No thank you,
we just skipped that!
On our way back to the jetty,
we visited this Ehrensvärd museum...
This museum was originally the official residence
of the fortress's commandants...
(and they were just playing cards all day! LOL!)
They also had private parties
at the basement...
I wonder what kind of parties they were!
The dry dock observation deck
is a MUST to visit at Suomenlinna...
I must say I was just blown away!
After about 3 hours at Suomenlinna,
we decided to head back to market square...
because we simply had too little time
and too much to see and do
in Helsinki.
To be continued...
XOXO
