Time to get back to our one-year-ago trip :)
Last year we tried out a new route,
using Finnair from Oslo to Helsinki,
then Helsinki to Bangkok.
On our way home from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok,
we had a few days stopover....
We stayed at Malaysia Hotel,
which is very strategically located in Bangkok.
First meal after we landed,
is at this Baiboon thai restaurant
(just across the street from where we stayed).
Very authentic thai food,
with a OK price and good surrounding.
Then the next thing we did
was to visit Chatuchak Weekend Market
**Although it wasn't a weekend**
So it was a lot quieter than usual,
but we still managed to get everything we were looking for....
If you do not want to walk
in the humid, warm outdoor market,
you can consider this Mixt Chatuchak....
with airconditions,
and all kind of shops selling very similar things
as the outdoor stalls.
Since we got back quite late,
there was not so many restaurants that were still open.
So, we had to eat on the street :)
The next day,
we went to this Life Center shopping mall
(walking distance from Malaysia Hotel),
and had a great thai brunch there,
then started sight-seeing after the meal.
The shopping mall has many restaurants,
but otherwise nothing much to be found.
From Life Center,
we walked to Lumphini Park...
One of the attractions
was of course,
this animal....
asian water monitors in all sizes!!
Then at night,
we met our friends from Norway,
and had a very unique experience
**no alcohol the entire day*.
we went to "floating market",
not a super authentic one,
but at least close to Bangkok city :)
After about 30-minute drive,
we arrived at
Taling Chan floating market...
Lots of great local food,
both raw and cooked :)
The market is not really a floating market,
because the stalls are practically
on the pier.
Anyway,
it was still interesting enough to experience
the interesting vibe of thai market,
selling all kind of stuffs....
and not to forget,
the railway right on top of the market.
We were so excited about the boat trip
touring us to the temples...
and the trip going there was really lovely!
We could see how the houses were on top of the water,
and how beautiful the surrounding was
with vegetables,
plants,
and cute dogs!
The canal wasn't big,
so someone had to take care of the traffic!
To be continued....
XOXO
